Host Microbe Interactions and Molecular Pathogenesis

The host-microbe interaction and molecular pathogenesis (HMIP) track is designed to bring together MCB students and faculty who have common research interests in this active area of scientific study. The field of host-microbe interactions is expansive, spanning a variety of microbes and hosts whose interactions also span the spectrum of mutualism to parasitism.

Students will be given the opportunity to explore this field with scientists who are equally enthusiastic about host-microbe interactions, fostering a highly interactive environment that will benefit both student and faculty.

Students in the track can further and broaden their interests through a variety of courses specifically catered towards host-microbe interactions. A core curriculum has been developed to expose students to the spectrum of microbes and hosts. Additionally, students in the HMIP track will be associated with the Center for Gene Research and Biocomputing that provides unique training opportunities in the rapidly evolving technologies of genomics, proteomics, systems biology and bioinformatics.
